Adequan IM for Horses is recommended for the intramuscular treatment of non-infectious degenerative and/or traumatic joint dysfunction and associated lameness of the carpal and hock joints in horses.  Adequan provides short-term relief of pain and inflammation, increasing lubrication and stimulating cartilage repair.  Each 5 ml of Adequan IM Equine contains 500 mg of Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan (PSGAG) solution.

Initial loading dose of Adequan is 5cc IM every four days for 7 doses.  (Alternatively, you can administer 5cc IM once per week for 8 weeks straight.)

After that time, dose with the maximum amount affordable/desired for the remainder of your horse's career.  Giving one dose every 1, 2, or 4 weeks is very effective for most at this point (depending on your level of performance required).

However, strategic planning of your Adequan can be helpful.  For example, dosing 24 hours prior to an event or show can be quite performance enhancing.  Furthermore, dosing weekly for two months prior to beginning the show season can be very helpful at maintaining reliable soundness during the season.
